WELCOME!
When you’re in your mid-forties and you feel lonely, sad, anxious, or fat. Or maybe you feel like you have nobody. Like there is no one for you to talk to. There is someone – my goal is to help you realize that you are not alone, and if you laugh in the process – even better!
9/30/2025 – THE GREAT ESCAPE
Have you ever heard the saying that “Everything happens for a reason”? I am a firm believer in that, even if the “thing” that happened was less than pleasant. The end result, in this case, was wonderful.
We have several dogs. Sly is our boy dog and he is the sweetest, most gentle, little heathen you could ever meet. He idolizes his doggy big sisters and snuggles up to them whenever he can. He dreams a lot in his sleep and makes the most adorable sounds and his little legs just run and run. He is wonderful! Except for his little habit of chewing/eating things. That is a whole different story though. All I’ll say about that now is that he munches on things that he is not supposed to. Like so freaking much! Aside from that habit, he is the perfect little pup. He’s my little nurse maid pup. He is always licking people and the other dogs, especially if there is a wound involved. We drove a couple hours from home (to another state entirely) to adopt him. He is our little menace, and we have loved him from the day we got him.
We were walking the dogs, all four of them, and there were people lighting off fireworks, as it was July 5th. Sly had been skittish lately and it was very weird because loves everyone. We came upon this family. and they wanted to say hi and pet the pups. Most of them were absolutely happy to get some pets, excited even! My two Great Danes have been trained since they were pups to be social creatures. Tillie and Sly were rescues so, they were friendly, but hesitant. Sly was down-right not interested. This was super weird because he was and is a super social creature. He was so scared and pulled back and wiggled so much, he pulled his big ole head right out of his prong collar. I know, I know – a prong collar? YES! All of my dogs are terrible pullers and this is what was required to make it better. I didn’t like it either, however I was interested in being able to walk my babies and letting my daughter walk her babies. Sly was always such a a good walker until this moment. As soon as he pulled his head out of the collar, he hauled ass. I stayed still with my Great Danes because he LOVES them and I had hoped that it would be enough. I was hoping to avoid scaring him further and trying to get him to come back. But he had been so scared, so the chase ensued!
My husband went back home, hoping that Sly was there waiting. He was not. I drove around the neighborhood every couple of hours throughout the night, hoping to find him and I posted him all over Social Media. Fortunately, that was what did it. Someone saw the post of him that I created and a post from the shelter with his photo. Someone responded to my post – my Sly was scared shitless and had gone into someone’s garage and hidden next to their hot water heater. They called the shelter and VOILA! That’s where we found our boy the next morning. He came out front with the employee looking terrified. He did not come to either of us right away – it took him a few minutes, but once he realized that he was safe and we were there to take him back home, he came over and cuddled up to me like the little sweetheart that he is. We had some paperwork to fill out and we paid our fees to the shelter for keeping him there overnight. They were wonderful to us and to him, but he was READY TO GO. But, before we could leave. the crew at the shelter (mostly the manager) was telling us about another little dog that was there and scared half to death. My husband went into the back to take a look at her, and he brought me a video of her. She was laying in the corner of her kennel shivering like crazy (from fear, I assure you – it was definitely not cold). She broke my heart, but we had four dogs already! So, we brought Sly home and spent some time with him. Then we went back up to the shelter with my daughter to see how they were together and if they would get along (because I’m a big ole sap!) and filled out the paperwork to take her home. They kept her for the next few days and had her spayed. There was definitely some adjustment time, but she is the most loving little nugget. We just adore her and she adores us. She is also an amazing cuddler!
